Goods and Services Tax A 12.5% Goods and Services Tax is added to all goods and services within New Zealand. This tax is almost always included in the listed price; however, watch for signs within stores or on product labels that indicate that the GST will be added to the ticketed price.
While some countries permit visitors to apply for a tax rebate upon departure, this is not the case with New Zealand. All residents and visitors are entitled to pay the tax. Although, when a supplier ships merchandise out of the country to visitors’ home address, they are not obliged to charge the GST. If visitors do have merchandise shipped, they should note their own country’s importing policy, as duty may have to be paid.
